Wow I really want to visit Iceland! My friend was there and he told me almost everything you mentioned 🙂 I really loved the part about Northern Lights because I definitely want to see it and capture it :))

I wish I had seen this before going to Iceland! What surprised me mostly is how very, very, very, very cold it stays in summer. Had I know in advance, I would have packed countless layers of clothes. Now I was mostly freezing, despite the winter coat 😀 So yes, layers!!

Oh I didn’t realise! The hard thing is, everyone has a different threshold for handling the cold. I just can’t! Some people wear a t-shirt in 1photos and think “oh it must be warm” but then you realise they love the cold and it’s actually 10 degrees!!

Thanks for the great post! I also plan on going in October. Did you end up renting a 4×4 from Go Camper or a the Go Smart instead?

Hi David! Thanks for your comment and sorry for the late reply. We actually hired a Go Smart and it was perfect for us. You’ll only need a 4×4 in October if you’re planing on visiting the Highlands or going on any of the F roads. How long are you going for? You should also check out our 9 day itinerary for ideas –

I absolutely loved all the practical advice! It answered a lot of questions that I had about visiting Iceland and I’ll definitely look into 1) getting extra insurance against gravel damage and 2) investing in a good camera before visiting Iceland (I currently only use an iPhone)!

Perfect timing, I’ve just started thinking about a trip to Iceland and this is all great advice! Especially appreciate the reminders about cellphone/batteries and temperature, as I (so far) only use my cell phone for photos.
